Caritas Hong Kong runs four dental clinics, in Aberdeen (Tin Wan), Caine Road, Ngau Tau Kok and Tsuen Wan. All work by appointment and close on Sundays and public holidays. No fee list is published online, so phone the clinic. Checked 2026-10-23.
There is no official score for whether a dental service is "good", and we do not rate or rank clinics. This guide sets out what can be checked on the Caritas website, Department of Health pages and other public sources: where the four clinics are, when they open, how to book, how to find out the fees, who can use the Community Dental Support Programme and where to complain. You can then judge whether it suits you. To compare Caritas with the Federation of Trade Unions clinics, Yan Chai Hospital, Yang Dental Clinic, St. James' Settlement and other low-cost options, see our guide to affordable dental care in Hong Kong.
What are the Caritas dental clinics?
The clinics are run by Caritas Hong Kong, a social service organisation, and are listed under its medical services. There are currently four [1]. They are community clinics run by a charity, which makes them different from both the Department of Health's government dental clinics and the dental departments of Hospital Authority hospitals.
One common mix-up: Caritas Medical Centre is not a Caritas dental clinic. The Caritas website says Caritas Medical Centre opened in 1964 and has been managed by the Hospital Authority since 1991 [6]. Hospital dental units mainly treat in-patients and people with special medical needs, not routine check-ups; see our guide to hospital dental services.
The four clinics, phone numbers and hours
The details below come from the clinic list on the Caritas website [1]. All four keep the same hours: Monday to Friday 8:45am to 5:00pm, Saturday 8:45am to 12:30pm, closed on Sundays and public holidays. The site states "By Appointments for all Caritas Dental Clinics".
| Clinic | Address | Phone |
|---|---|---|
| Caritas Aberdeen Dental Clinic | G/F, Caritas Aberdeen Social Centre, 22 Tin Wan Street, Aberdeen | 2552 4215 |
| Caritas Caine Road Dental Clinic | Room 032, G/F, Caritas House, 2 Caine Road | 2843 4617 |
| Caritas Ngau Tau Kok Dental Clinic | G/F, Caritas Social Centre, 1 On Tak Road, Ngau Tau Kok (behind Ngau Tau Kok Market) | 3796 4621 |
| Caritas Tsuen Wan Dental Clinic | G/F, Block B, 146 Chung On Street, Tsuen Wan | 2615 1461 |
Worth knowing: every clinic closes at 5pm on weekdays, there are no evening sessions, and on Saturdays they close at 12:30pm. If you work office hours, book early or plan to take time off. To see other public and non-profit options nearby, use Southern District dental care, Tsuen Wan dental care or dental care by district.
What they do and what they do not list
The Caritas clinic list does not set out the services offered at each clinic [1]. What can be checked is this: in June 2025 Caritas announced that its dental clinics had joined the Department of Health's Community Dental Support Programme, listing an oral examination, pain relief medication, X-rays, and fillings or extractions for up to three teeth [2]. The programme's own page now also covers scaling, root canal treatment and removable dentures [3], but ask each clinic what it actually provides.
Points to note:
- No published list of services: if you want braces, implants, crowns or bridges, phone first to ask whether the clinic offers them and which dentist would treat you.
- No Sunday, holiday or evening sessions: for pain at those times, see "When to see a dentist urgently" below.
- No fee list online: you will need to ask each clinic, as set out in the next section.
How do I find out the fees?
Neither the Caritas clinic list nor its medical services page shows dental fees [1][6], so we do not reproduce any prices here. Figures circulating on other websites are not published by Caritas and may be out of date. The safest approach is to phone the clinic you want to use and ask the same set of questions:
- How much is a check-up, and are X-rays charged separately?
- How much is scaling, and what does deep cleaning for gum disease cost?
- Are fillings charged per tooth or per surface?
- Roughly how much are extractions, root canal treatment and dentures, and do follow-up visits cost extra?
- Does this clinic take part in the Community Dental Support Programme, does it accept Elderly Health Care Vouchers, and when is the next appointment?
The Consumer Council advises using a registered dentist, asking about the treatment steps and costs before you start, including whether consultation, X-ray or medication fees are extra, and keeping all receipts and treatment records afterwards [7]. For help reading a quote, see how to read a dental quote.
Fee comparison: Caritas and other routes
This table shows published official figures. Private-clinic ranges are not repeated here; for those and their sources see Hong Kong dental fees.
| Route | Who can use it | What you pay | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Caritas dental, self-paid | Anyone, by appointment | No fee list published online; phone the clinic | [1] |
| Community Dental Support Programme (Caritas announced it joined in 2025) | People receiving Old Age Living Allowance or other listed benefits or services, registered with eHealth | Check-up, X-rays and pain relief free. Category A: no administrative fee for fillings, extractions, scaling and root canal; $500 per removable denture. Category B: $50 each for fillings, extractions, scaling and root canal; $1,000 per removable denture | [2] [3] |
| Department of Health general public sessions (not Caritas) | Anyone; pain relief and extractions | Free for eligible persons; $850 per attendance for non-eligible persons, plus $90 per drug item | [5] |
For private price ranges, see scaling and gum treatment costs and filling costs.
The Community Dental Support Programme: who qualifies?
When Caritas announced in June 2025 that it had joined this Department of Health programme, it stated that fillings or extractions cost $50 per tooth and gave the enquiry hotline 2111 3403 [2]. The programme page sets out the main rules [3]:
- Eligibility: a valid Hong Kong identity card or Certificate of Exemption, registration with eHealth, and current receipt of Old Age Living Allowance, a second-tier co-payment Community Care Service Voucher for the Elderly, specified home care services, or a Hospital Authority medical fee waiver. Homeless people referred by a social worker from a designated NGO also qualify.
- Frequency: every 180 days, a check-up, X-rays and up to three filling or extraction quotas; every 365 days, one scaling and root canal treatment on one tooth. Removable dentures need fewer than 20 remaining teeth and a dentist's assessment, at least five years apart.
- How to join: choose a participating NGO dental clinic and contact it directly, or arrange it through a registered social worker.
- Vouchers: older people can pay programme fees with Elderly Health Care Vouchers.
The Caritas announcement does not say which of the four clinics take part [2]. The Department of Health has a participating clinic search page [4]; check it, or phone the clinic, before you go. For the wider picture of dental subsidies for older people, see Hong Kong dental subsidies.
How long is the wait?
Caritas does not publish waiting times [1]. Every dental service is by appointment, so phone any of the four clinics to ask about the next available slot. If you plan to use the Community Dental Support Programme, register with eHealth first and have proof of your allowance or service ready; going through a social worker will take longer.
Is it right for you?
| Your situation | Does Caritas dental fit? | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Older person on Old Age Living Allowance, registered with eHealth | Worth considering: Caritas announced it joined the Community Dental Support Programme | Ask whether your chosen clinic takes part, about quotas and the next date |
| Living or working near Aberdeen, Mid-Levels, Kwun Tong or Tsuen Wan | Worth considering: the four clinics cover Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories | See district pages for other nearby options |
| Working office hours, free after 5pm | A poor fit: no evening sessions, Saturday mornings at most | Take time off or book a Saturday early |
| Want to know the price before deciding | One extra step: no fee list online | Ask every clinic the five questions above |
| Pain on a Sunday, holiday or at night | Not suitable: closed at those times | Toothache triage guide |
| Want braces or implants | Not listed on the website | Ask first, check the specialist register and get a written quote |
Wherever you go, you can check a dentist's registration and specialist status on the Dental Council register [8]; see how to verify a dentist in Hong Kong for the steps.
How to complain
- Start with the clinic: keep receipts, quotes and treatment records, and raise the problem with the clinic.
- Community Dental Support Programme issues: for eligibility, quotas and co-payments, contact the programme [3]; the hotline given by Caritas is 2111 3403 [2].
- Professional conduct: the Dental Council of Hong Kong handles complaints about unprofessional conduct by registered dentists and publishes a complaints pamphlet [9].
- Consumer disputes: you can complain to the Consumer Council [7].
When to see a dentist urgently
Go to A&E straight away if toothache comes with difficulty breathing, speaking or swallowing, a swollen or painful eye or sudden problems with your eyesight, a lot of swelling in your mouth, or difficulty opening your mouth [10]. The Caritas clinics close on Sundays and public holidays. For daytime pain relief or an extraction, the Department of Health runs general public sessions at 11 government dental clinics: register online for the ballot between 6:00am and 11:30am on the day before, and half the places go first to people aged 65 or over [5]. For triage, see what to do about toothache.
Frequently asked questions
Are the Caritas dental clinics good?
There is no official rating. What can be checked: there are four clinics, in Aberdeen, Caine Road, Ngau Tau Kok and Tsuen Wan, all by appointment, open until 5pm on weekdays and Saturday mornings, and Caritas announced in 2025 that it had joined the Community Dental Support Programme. That suits eligible people such as Old Age Living Allowance recipients; it does not suit night-time or holiday emergencies.
How much do Caritas dental clinics charge? Is there a fee list?
Caritas does not publish a dental fee list online, so we have not quoted prices; please phone the clinic. The Community Dental Support Programme does publish its charges: Category B participants pay $50 each for fillings, extractions, scaling and root canal treatment.
How do I book? Are they open on Saturdays?
All dental services are by appointment: Aberdeen 2552 4215, Caine Road 2843 4617, Ngau Tau Kok 3796 4621, Tsuen Wan 2615 1461. Saturday hours are 8:45am to 12:30pm; Sundays and public holidays are closed.
Can older people use health care vouchers?
The Department of Health says older people can use Elderly Health Care Vouchers to pay fees under the Community Dental Support Programme. For self-paid treatment, ask the clinic whether it accepts vouchers.
Is a Caritas dental clinic the same as Caritas Medical Centre?
No. Caritas Medical Centre has been managed by the Hospital Authority since 1991 and is a public hospital. The Caritas dental clinics are community clinics run by Caritas Hong Kong itself; their addresses and phone numbers are in the table above.
